Bowie

The bowie knife is a true legend, perhaps more than a knife. It is a classic large blade, perhaps even more famous than the Japanese tanto or the Ghurka kukri. Bowie knives have been made in countless sizes, shapes and materials over the past two hundred years, but most pieces have had the crossguard and the long clip point blade with upper edge, the main characteristics of the bowie. This shape appears in many makers around the world, which is no wonder, since it is a fairly popular knife shape, and for many people, the silhouette of the bowie comes to mind when they talk about knives.

The Shaman Bowie tries to follow the style of bowie knives with its shape, but above all it is a strong work knife optimized for field tasks. It has the two main features, the integrated crossguard and the upper edge. The Bowie is also made of 8mm thick Sleipner tool steel with a hardness of 59-60 HRC. Due to the thick blade, the knife is heavy, but well balanced. It can be struck and cut with great force, and is very resistant to loads. The blade has a clip point, with a 6mm wide false upper edge. The blade is 180mm long and widens towards the tip. In front of the handle, it is about 41mm wide at the choil, and in front of the tip, it is about 45mm at its widest point. The straight cutting edge starts from about 27mm high and ends in a convex cutting edge. The wide, 8mm thick blade mirror gives the knife maximum stability. The blade has a thin bevel on both sides 30 mm after the handle guard, so it doesn’t cut your thumb while carving. The rest of the blade is sharp, good for scraping tasks. The blade surface is hand-sanded with sandpaper.

The handle is 135mm long, wider in the middle, and ends in a wide, pronounced handle end, with the integrated lanyard hole and the 6mm wide pommel. The handle is fishbody-shaped, meaning that when viewed from above, the front of the handle and the concave-polished part of the back are narrower, and the middle and end of the handle are thicker. This fishbody shape is also excellent for gripping, fits well in the grip hand, and provides sufficient comfort during use. The grip panel is almost 130mm long. The Bowie handle can also be made primarily of synthetic materials, such as black FR4 or some kind of Micarta, and can be randomly filed, which increases the grip. Another important element of the handle is the integrated 56mm wide crossguard, which can excellently prevent the hand from slipping onto the blade.

The Bowie sheath can be made of black cowhide or brown buffalo leather, with inner leather blade guides, edge protector, and handle strap.
