EDC
EDC, or every day carry knives are probably the most practical cutting tools, because they can always be with us due to their small size, so we can solve most knife tasks with them. Of course, due to the small blade size, they are only of limited use in hiking or camping tasks, but they are very useful in urban environments for smaller tasks.
If you need to open a package, cut a cardboard box, cut string, strap, or fold a sandwich while working, a good EDC knife can do an excellent job. The small blade comes with a small handle, which must be designed very carefully, because the knife must be comfortable, safe, and fully functional, despite the fact that the handle is about 2 cm shorter than an average work knife.
The EDC blade is made of Sleipner tool steel, its length is 80mm, its width is 32mm, and its thickness is 6mm. The blade is straight up to about the middle, then strongly convex. The edge line runs in a single, distinct curve to the tip, providing very good cutting ability. The blade is saber-type, with a narrow convex cutting edge. The ricasso is narrow so that the cutting edge is very close to the index finger during use, so you can carve and cut with the knife well.
The handle is 106mm long, with a straight line and a well-rounded cross-section. Its maximum width is 30mm. The concave for the index finger makes the handle safe, and there is no element on it that would take up space from the hand. The basic version does not have a break-off end, which is not necessary on such a small knife. If the handle is made of synthetic material, i.e. FR4 or Micarta, then the randomly filed surface design greatly increases the grip safety. There is also a lanyard hole on the handle, so we can add, for example, an extension paracord braid to our knife for decorative purposes or to extend the handle.
Among the Shaman knives, the EDC is a small, lightweight, and easy-to-carry knife. The sheath can be made of kydex, or a black cowhide or brown buffalo leather pouch can be made to hold the knife securely.
